What triggers a report

Many mandated reporter statutes set the bar at reasonable suspicion of abuse or neglect, not proof, though the exact wording varies by state and a coach should learn their own state's standard rather than assume this one. Waiting for certainty, or trying to confirm a suspicion before reporting it, is one of the most common ways a report is delayed or never made.

Why this is training, not paperwork

Knowing the legal definition is not the same as recognizing a situation in the moment, knowing which agency to call in a given state, or knowing what to say to a child without asking leading questions that can complicate an investigation later. Real training covers all three. A form signed once, acknowledging a policy exists, covers none of them.
