Why a one time safety badge is not enough
A badge earned once and never checked again tells you what was true on the day it was issued. It does not tell you whether anything has changed since, and at a martial arts academy, the people in the room change.
What actually expires
- Coach screening reflects records as of the day it ran, not any day after, unless it is repeated. Safe Academy 360 runs every screen again each month for that reason.
- Training certifications, including abuse prevention and CPR and first aid, carry their own renewal dates set by the training provider.
- Staff turn over. A coach screened and trained two years ago may not be the coach teaching a class today.
Why this matters more than the badge itself
A badge on the wall from a past year is a photograph, not a live feed. It answers "was this true once," and a parent's actual question is "is this true now." The gap between those two questions is where an out of date badge does more harm than no badge at all, because it looks current when it may not be.
How renewal is supposed to work
Under Safe Academy 360 certification, each credential, screening, and training is tracked to its own expiry date rather than to a single annual renewal for the whole academy. When a coach's training lapses, that is reflected in the academy's status rather than left unremarked until someone asks. Checking a listing yourself

What to ask about a badge you see
If an academy displays a safety badge or certificate, three questions tell you whether it still means anything. When was it issued. What does it cover, coaches or the academy or both. And what happens when a credential behind it expires.
A certificate with a date and a way to check it is doing more work than one with neither. A certificate that cannot be checked is a printed claim.
